For 3TO, Deaton going, Loudermilk in
The latest itinerary of veteran band members coming and going could stun longtime fans of a couple of popular groups.
As anticipated, “Rockin’ Ray” Deaton is indeed leaving IIIrd Tyme Out, the band he helped found. And, he’s leaving soon.
Filling his place on bass will be veteran Marty Raybon sidekick Edgar Loudermilk, who also handled bass chores with Marty Raybon’s Full Circle. Joining Raybon’s group in late 2002, Loudermilk has since become an integral part of Raybon’s vocal mix with his close and powerful harmonies.
According to IIIrd Tyme Out’s Russell Moore, writing on the band’s Web site, http://www.iiirdtymeout.com, Loudermilk’s first show with the group will be sooner than expected.
“Ray has recently decided that July 26, 2007 (in Columbus, OH. @ the Musicians Against Childhood Cancer festival) will be his final performance with the band, and Edgar will start full-time, on July 28, 2007 in Cedartown,” Moore writes.
Loudermilk, a Georgia resident is a relative of the famous Louvin Brothers.
Moore, generally regarded as one of Bluegrass’s best contempory vocalists, said Steve Dilling, IIIrd Tyme Out’s banjo player, will assist him in booking future shows and festivals. Deaton had been handling a bulk of those chores with the group.
