Tim O’Brien, a powerhouse of contemporary bluegrass and acoustic music, will headline the 2007 edition of the Ola Bell Reed Homecoming Festival in Lansing, N.C.

O’Brien’s cover of Reed’s “I’ve Endured” earned him a 2004 IBMA nomination for Best Song of the Year.

He is also presenting a fiddle workshop during the festival, which runs Aug. 17-19.Ola Belle Reed Homecoming Festival

A highlight will be performances by Reed’s husband and sons and several musicians who played with her over the years. Newer groups that arecarrying on her tradition and local talent will fill out the stage lineup.

And, the festival will try to break into the Guinness Book of World Records by staging the world’s longest Old-Time Music pickin’ session. Needless to say, it is looking for volunteer pickers to commit to playing one or two-hour stints. The festival will kick off the pickin’ marathon at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17. The goal is to keep the music rolling for a solid 24 hours.

In order to assure funding for the festival’s future, noted luthier Wayne Henderson has made it possible for organizers to raffle off a Henderson D 18 guitar. Tickets will be $1 per chance or 6 chances for $5.00.

To purchase raffle tickets that help support the festival, go to the Ola Belle Fest Web page and link to the Guitar Raffle page.
