The Carter Family

The Original Carter Family is this year’s inductee into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame at the Bill Monroe Memorial Bluegrass Park in Bean Blossom, Ind., regarded by many as Bluegrass’s Mecca.The family of country music pioneers will be immortalized during special ceremonies on Saturday, Sept. 22, during the Uncle Pen Days Festival at the south central Indiana Park. The Hall of Fame and Bill Monroe Museum are located on the festival grounds. Admission is free to those holding concert tickets.

Uncle Pen Days are Sept. 19-22 with a lineup that features 30-plus bands.

Headliners include Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys, J.D. Crowe & the New South, Cherryholmes, the James King Band and the Lonesome River Band.

Two veterans who have spanned many genres through their long musical journeys are scheduled to appear Wednesday. Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen’s careers can be traced back to The Byrds on up to The Desert Rose Band, with plenty of notable stops in between.

Also, the Anita Fisher Band, Bobby Osborne & Rocky Top Xpress, Grasstowne, Melvin Goins and Windy Mountain, the Larry Stephenson Band, Blue Moon Rising, Steep Canyon Rangers, Kenny and Amanda Smith, Eddie and Martha Adcock (Eddie Adcock was last year’s Hall of Fame inductee), Tim Graves and Cherokee, The Chapmans, Karl Shiflett & the Big Country Show and Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time.

Camping reservations are being taken now, as are advance ticket orders. Tickets ordered by Sept. 1 carry a substantial discount.
