Dailey & Vincent Signs With Rounder Records
Jamie DaileyNashville TN. - Rounder Records is pleased to announce the signing of new duo Dailey & Vincent, the pairing of well-known bluegrass performers Jamie Dailey, former lead singer and guitarist for Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver; and Darrin Vincent, who most recently was guitar and mandolin player and harmony vocalist with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder.
Dailey & Vincent will release their self-titled debut, featuring a broad cross-section of high-energy traditional bluegrass and gospel songs, in January 2008. They also produced the album. “This is an extremely exciting time for Darrin and me, as we set off on a new adventure that marks the next chapter in our lives,” said Dailey. “We’re grateful for Rounder’s vision, support and dedication.”
Darrin VincentJamie Dailey (guitar, bass, lead and harmony vocals) was hired by Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver in 1998 as lead, baritone and tenor singer and bass player. Three years later he switched to guitar, but he continued to sing lead and harmony vocals on the concert trail and on nine of the band’s albums. During Jamie’s tenure the band won 11 IBMA Awards–including Vocal Group of the Year from 2001-2006 and Song of the Year for “Blue Train,” which featured his singing-and earned four Grammy® and five Dove Award nominations. Jamie has recorded with Dolly Parton and Rhonda Vincent, appeared on five Gaither Homecoming DVD’s, and was a guest on Ricky Skaggs’ Grammy-winning Brand New Strings album.
“I’ve known Jamie and Darrin for years and loved what they did to make the bands they were in sound great, but I wasn’t prepared for the beauty and strength of their voices together. Their singing, supported by a hot young band and surrounded by a strong team of professionals, makes this one of the most exciting groups in years. It’s been fun working with them to this point and I know it’s only the beginning of a long, successful ride.”Ken Irwin Rounder Records co-founder
Darrin Vincent (mandolin, bass, guitar, lead and harmony vocals) started singing at age three and playing music at age six as part of his family band, The Sally Mountain Show, along with sister Rhonda Vincent. As a member of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for the past ten years, Darrin has won five Grammy Awards (Ancient Tones, Soldier of the Cross, A Simple Life, Brand New Strings, Instrumentals) and eight IBMA Awards for Instrumental Group of the Year. He also performed on Grammy-winning albums by Dolly Parton (The Grass is Blue) and Jimmy Sturr (Top of the World). He has performed and recorded with a multitude of other artists including Nora Jones, Emmylou Harris, Earl Scruggs, Bruce Hornsby, Vince Gill, John Hartford and Keith Urban. Darrin earned three Grammy nominations for co-producing Rhonda Vincent’s One Step Ahead, Ragin’ Live and All American Bluegrass Girl, which is also nominated for IBMA Album of the Year. His other production credits include Susie Luchsinger’s Dove Award-nominated Count It All Joy, The Cherryholmes’ Bluegrass Vagabonds, and Hunter Berry’s IBMA-nominated Wow Baby.
Completing Dailey & Vincent’s lineup are Jeff Parker on mandolin; Joe Dean on banjo, guitar and mandolin; and Adam Haynes on fiddle.
Dailey & Vincent will perform on the IBMA Fan Fest main stage on Saturday, October 6.

1 commentspotlight: Winfield National Mountain Dulcimer Competition Winners
L-R Aaron Thornton(3rd), Joe Collins(1st), and Rob Pearcy(2nd)After three 3rd place finishes in the National Mountain Dulcimer Contest at the Walnut Valley Festival, Joe Collins of Shelby, NC finally took the first place trophy. He also won $150 and a 4FHKK Custom Mountain Dulcimer by the Dulcimer Shoppe/McSpadden of Mountain View, AR. Joe is a veteran of this contest having placed in ‘04, ‘05 and 2006. Joe has been playing the mountain dulcimer for 29 years. He was first introduced the dulcimer by a high school friend, Ellen Fishbwine. She had one and told Joe, she wanted him to teach her to play the instrument. Joe said, ” I had no idea what it was, so she sent it home with me where I learned to play it and fell in love with it.” His own first Mt. Dulcimer was a Father’s Day present from his family.
A longtime festival fan from Smyrna, TN took second place this year. For fourteen years, Rob Pearcy has been coming to the Festival here in Winfield. Rob is a fixture at many of the contests not only entering this competition but also the mandolin and flat-pick guitar contests. He also helps out fellow contestants in by playing back-up. He has been playing the mountain dulcimer for the past 27 years and says “stubbornness” caused him to enter the contest again. Rob is a multi talented individual and also plays the guitar, mandolin, Dobro, old time banjo, harmonica and the bass. Coming to Winfield and the Festival is the high point of the year. Rob adds, “The rest of the year seems irrelevant.” The second place trophy, $125 and a 6FHCRB Mountain Dulcimer by the Dulcimer Shoppe/McSpadden of Mountain View, AR is what Rob takes back to Smyrna, TN.
Aaron Thornton of Carrier, MS was the third place winner in this contest. Aaron has entered the contest three times and this time he made the cut to the final five and eventually to third place. He wanted to enter this contest because it is a “National” contest and placing in this would be important. His uncle, Bill Burks who builds mountain dulcimers gave him his first instrument nine years ago. Thornton loves playing music and jamming here at the festival. This is his third time to come to Winfield. Thornton has a hobby of collecting old stringed musical instruments and old music records. . The third place trophy, $1o0 and a 4FGCS Mountain Dulcimer by The Dulcimer Shoppe/McSpadden of Mountain View, AR, was the result of his efforts.
