Clay Hess and Rick Hayes to Conduct Bluegrass Guitar and Mandolin Workshops and Concert

Rising Sun, IN, Nov. 17 – Clay Hess and Rick Hayes have been asked to conduct a series of three workshops to discuss bluegrass guitar and mandolin and how they fit together within a band. The evening will conclude with a concert by the duo.The event is to be held at the Rising Sun Senior Center in Rising Sun, Indiana on Saturday, November 17. The three consecutive one-hour workshops run from 2 pm to 5 pm. They will cover:

  1. bluegrass guitar
  2. mandolin techniques
  3. how mandolin and guitar fit within a band structure.

Time will be allowed for question and answers as well. Following a dinner break, the two will perform a concert (also at the Rising Sun Senior Center) starting at 7:30 pm.

Admission for the workshops is $85.00 and includes entrance to the concert. Admission for just the concert will be $10.00.

Clay Hess, who recently joined Mountain Heart, started his bluegrass career at Dollywood and moved on to play with Rickey Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder and The Mark Newton Band. While performing with Skaggs, the band won both a Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album of the Year and the IBMA Instrumental Group of the Year awards.

Rick Hayes is currently playing mandolin with The Gibson Brothers. While not on the road, he is recording and producing in his Cincinnati studio and making F-5 mandolins.

The event is being organized by Zeiler Music Center and the Rising Sun and Ohio County Indiana Tourism Bureau.
