No offense intended, as I really like Rhonda, Rage, et al, but come on…something’s up when one band wins three instrumentalist of the year categories. Hunter, Mickey & Kenny are great — there’s no arguing that — but there are some other great pickers out there that deserve some consideration/recognition and for the Rage to blank the rest of the industry…I just don’t see it.
I must be missing something. There’s got to be something with the nomination process, the voting process, the voting community, or Rounder’s influence on the process to make this happen this way.
Given that the SPBGMA awards are voted on by the fan base as opposed to IBMA’s industry based voting, I suspect Rhonda’s immense popularity, relentless touring schedule and tireless work ethic go a long ways in keeping her and the band at the top of the list.
And talent, they’ve got it by the bucket loads.
