Dan Tyminski will release Wheels on Rounder June 17

March 27th, 2008 | Category: CD Release
The Dan Tyminski Bandthe Dan Tyminski Band

Burlington, MA – One of the most revered artists in bluegrass, Dan Tyminski, will release Wheels on Rounder Records on June 17. Marking Tyminski’s sophomore album as a solo artist and his first effort for Rounder, Wheels is the follow up to his critically acclaimed 2000 release Carry Me Across The Mountain (re-issued on Rounder Records). Rolling Stone called Tyminski “one of the genre’s biggest talents…” and went on to say that “Tyminski helps push bluegrass to the front line.”

So why did it take eight years to put together a second album? Frankly, it’s the first time in nearly a decade that Tyminski has been able to slow down enough to take the time to record it. The thirteen-time Grammy Award winner has been enchanting bluegrass enthusiasts for over fourteen years as the guitarist, lead and harmony vocalist for Alison Krauss and Union Station. His signature hard-edged vocal style is a favorite among critics and peers who have named Tyminski Best Male Vocalist at the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards three times.

In high demand as a vocalist, Tyminski has also recorded with Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Rob Thomas, Alan Jackson, Reba McEntire and Joan Osborne, among others. And he became a household voice when “I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow” and the O Brother, Where Art Thou? phenomenon took off. Suddenly, Tyminski was performing on the Grammy Awards and took home four trophies that year, including one for Best Country Collaboration for “I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow” and, in a stunning victory, one for Album Of The Year for the O Brother soundtrack. Following the sweep at the Grammys, Tyminski performed on The Late Show With David Letterman, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and countless other shows. His voice and an unlikely movie helped to bring bluegrass to the masses. People all over America now know the voice of Dan Tyminski. They were let in on a little secret, a slice of Americana. Now with the release of Wheels, those fans will have a chance to get better acquainted with their favorite bluegrass voice. With Tyminski at the helm of an all-star band and guest appearances by Ron Block, Cheryl and Sharon White and Vince Gill, it’s an album that fans will no doubt feel was well worth the wait.
