Morganton, NC — As thoughts turn to summer, the City of Morganton is making final plans for the 5th Annual Red White and Bluegrass Festival (July 1-4, 2008). The four-day event has become one of the largest traditional and admission free bluegrass festivals in the world and will continue to grow this year with over 30 bluegrass artists and 32 hours of music.

Celebrate the fourth of July in Morganton, North Carolina with national and regional bluegrass talent including many International Bluegrass Music Associations award winners. Festivities will include a bluegrass camp for kids, tent sales of bluegrass instruments, music and other related materials, food and drink sales, official festival caps and t-shirts, special July fourth celebration of old-time activities and the largest fireworks show in western North Carolina.

Hop on board the Martha White Bluegrass Bus Museum and follow Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs during the early days of the Grand Ole Opry. Make plans to talk with Chris Jones, IBMA Bluegrass Broadcaster of the year as Sirius Satellite Radio broadcasts on site during the festival. Meet one of bluegrass music’s great ambassadors, Cindy Baucom of the Premiere Radio Network and “Knee Deep In Bluegrass”. Take a horse pulled wagon ride through the festival area. Be a frog jockey in the annual frog-jumping event or become a contestant in the watermelon-eating contest.

Morganton also offers a vibrant downtown filled with restaurants, galleries and shops before making your way to the festival area for the afternoon and evening performances. the location is convenient to wonderful natural resources such as Lake James, South Mountain State Park, Table Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway and the city’s beautiful Catawba River Greenway.
