Dan Tyminski Band - “Wheels”
It’s no wonder when one looks at all the individual awards that members of the Dan Tyminski Band are up for that the band itself claimed a finalist nomination for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Instrumental Group of the Year.
While his boss Alison Krauss is away sharing the spotlight with Robert Plant, Tyminski, a member of Krauss’s Union Station since 1994, is very definitely continuing to play. And, he’s assembled a group of top-notch musicians for his band. They include longtime Union Station associate Barry Bales on bass, former Union Station member Adam Steffey on mandolin, veteran sideman Ron Stewart doubling on banjo and fiddle and newcomer Justin Moses, who plays fiddle and dobro.
Besides vying for Instrumental Group of the Year, individual members are in the running for other awards — Stewart for both banjo and fiddle player of the year, Bales for bass player of the year and Steffey for mandolin player of the year.
The Dan Tyminski Band released a CD, “Wheels,” on the Rounder Records label in the first half of the year. The group also did a video of the title cut, which was featured numerous times on CMT.
