Jerry Douglas slides into 2008 IBMA Dobro player nomination

Jerry Douglas, the Country Music Association’s reigning Musician of the Year, is up for Dobro Player of the Year honors next month when the International Bluegrass Music Association hands out its annual awards in Nashville, Tenn.

Earning the nickname, “Flux,” for his ability to churn out riffs at lightning speed,Douglas is a regular member of Alison Krauss and Union Station, which is taking time off while the boss lady tours with Robert Plant. During his career, Douglas has performed as a regular with several noteworthy groups, including The Whites, J.D. Crowe and the New South and the Country Gentleman.

According to most counts in the industry, Douglas has appeared on more than 2,000 albums that have spanned many genres. He holds 12 Grammy Awards and has claimed the CMA Instrumentalist of the Year title for three years.

Douglas is also gaining notoriety in music circles as an innovative producer and has left that mark on CDs by such groups as the Nashville Bluegrass Band, the Del McCoury Band, Jesse Winchester and Maura O’Connell. He is also currently touring with his own group.
