Mike Auldridge at Beard Guitars
With the passing of Josh Graves, Mike Auldridge seems, at the least, to step into the role of senior dean of the resophonic guitar in bluegrass. After all, legend has it that he purchased his first Dobro from Graves, who was also a big influence on Auldridge’s career.
Auldridge is in line to become the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Dobro Player of the Year next month.
He first stepped into the limelight in 1971, when he joined the genre-breaking Seldom Scene in Washington, D.C. He remained affiliated with that group for decades. Today, Auldridge is affiliated with several groups, including Good Deale Bluegrass, the Auldridge-O’Dell Vintage Country Band and John Starling and Carolina Star.
Auldridge is currently heavily involved in the development and production of new signature resophonics — both six- and eight-string versions — being offered by Beard Guitars. He also maintains a large and constantly changing Web site, www.mikeauldridge.com, which offers a vast array of merchandise, from the Beard Guitars products, to performance CDs and videos to instructional materials.
