More on The Vaughs fine CD

Here’s an update to a review I wrote last week on Leavin’ You, a new CD by a West Virginia family band, The Vaughns.

In that review, I sang the praises of the fiddle work on that fine CD, but I didn’t know for sure which direction that praise should be aimed. Along comes John Titus, co-producer of the CD — which was recorded at Titus’s J & V Studio near Weston, W. Va. — to straighten me out.

With the exception of harmony fiddle on one of the CD’s instrumentals, all the fiddle parts on the album were laid down by band member Molly Matheny, Titus said. So, kudos to Molly for some very nice, double-stop fiddle work on this project.

Titus, whose gaining a reputation for some top-notch recording work in his small studio, also offered another nugget about The Vaughns. David Vaughn, who seems to be The Vaughns’ driving force, vocally and with his songwriting skills, and his brother Daniel, have started an all-gospel project. Daniel Vaughn played bass with the family band until he left to attend college. Titus said Daniel, like brother David, also is a skilled vocalist.

We’ll be waiting to hear that effort — and anything else by The Vaughns. They are one fine band.
