Burlington, MA - Long unavailable, the legacy of Tony Trischka’s 1985 album Hill Country has been kept alive by musicians and fans via carefully-guarded vinyl pressings and cassette dubs. On October 21 Rounder Records will release the highly anticipated re-mastered edition, complete with extensive new notes and a bonus track, restoring to print a pivotal piece of bluegrass history. By investigating his roots in the tradition, maverick banjo virtuoso Tony Trischka crafted an album that revealed limitless potential for innovation within the boundaries of classic bluegrass – inspiring all those who heard it.

“Twenty-some odd years ago, Tony Trischka was pointing the way before anyone else even knew they wanted to head in that direction. This is music that influenced a new generation of musicians to re-think and re-draw the boundaries of roots-based bluegrass. Roots that run deep. And ’grass that keeps growing.” Tom Adams

Featured performers include Sam Bush, Dudley Connell, Jerry Douglas, Béla Fleck, Del McCoury, Jerry McCoury, Ronnie McCoury, Mark O’Connor, Sonny Osborne, Tony Rice, Eddie Stubbs, and more.

Trischka’s studio album, Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular (Rounder) was released last year and marked Trischka’s return to bluegrass. It also earned him a Grammy® nomination and three IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) awards including Instrumental Album of the Year, Banjo Player of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year. The album featured a range of originals and covers in a series of surging full-band tracks each highlighted by twin intertwining banjos.

Joining him on the album were a host of notable banjoists, including the father of bluegrass banjo, Earl Scruggs, comedian and musician Steve Martin, Béla Fleck, Alison Brown, Scott Vestal, Noam Pikelny, Bill Emerson, Tom Adams and Kenny Ingram. Other, non-banjo playing, guest musicians include Tony Rice, Jerry Douglas, Chris Thile, Sam Bush, Ron Stewart, Tim Stafford, Byron House, David Grier, Barry Bales and Stuart Duncan. Featured vocalists include Thile and rising bluegrass musician Michael Daves trading verses on “Run Mountain” and Dudley Connell on “Live and Let Live” as well as a striking version of the bluegrass perennial “Fox on the Run.”

In support of Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular, Trischka performed on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Live with Regis & Kelly.
