Adam Steffey is seeking his sixth Mandolin Player of the Year Award next month from the International Bluegrass Music Association.

Steffey started on the national bluegrass circuit in 1987 as a member of the Lonesome River Band. He left to form his own group, but soon became acquainted with a young fiddle player and vocalist by the name of Alison Krauss. He became a member of her group Union Station, where he stayed for several years.

After a three-year stint with The Isaacs, Steffey joined the high-energy band Mountain Heart and continued with the group for more than six years.
