Jim Mills has earned the title of International Bluegrass Music Association’s Banjo Player of the Year six times — and he’s one of five nominees in line to pick up the award again in early October.
Mills has been a member of Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder since 1997. He has also released an instructional DVD and three solo projects including Hide Head Blues, My Dixie Home, and Bound to Ride, for which he won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s award for Instrumental Album of the Year.
Now, Jim Mills is wearing the cap of author as he completes his new book on Pre-War Gibson Flathead Mastertone Banjos. He owns an extensive collection of banjos and is constantly buying, selling and swapping.
One of his latest claims to fame is Huber Banjo’s release of the Jim Mills signature model.
