Country superstar Vince Gill, who continues to revive his bluegrass roots in his music these days, is going unplugged and pared down.
Gill is starting a tour of Western venues that will last through mid-November, and he’s definitely traveling light, with only a three-piece supporting group — Pete Wasner, Billy Thomas and Mike Bubb. Stops along the way will not include large stadiums or similar venues; Gill is picking small theaters and clubs for this itinerary.
“It’s a special acoustic evening with Vince Gill, in which he plays without a set list,” Bill Barr, who handles Gill’s bookings in Northern California, told the Monterey County (Calif.) The Herald.
Barr told the newspaper Vince Gill will take suggestions from the crowds on what songs he should perform. “If he likes what they holler out, he’ll play it.”
“Typically, he plays larger venues,” said Barr. “This is by choice.”
A 2007 inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Gill began playing in bluegrass bands while in high school in his native Oklahoma. He joined the country rock band Pure Prairie League in 1979 as lead singer and recorded three albums with the group.
He signed a solo contract with RCA in Nashville in 1983 and his been on a roll since. He has collected more Grammys® than any other country artist.
After his acoustic tour, Vince Gill will join his wife, gospel singer Amy Grant, for a holiday tour in the South and Southeast.
A complete tour schedule is available on Vince Gill’s web site.
