Grisman goes gypsy on Stephane Wrembel CD

This one’s for ears that extend a bit beyond bluegrass, especially to bluegrass fans who have a touch of gypsy soul.

It’s a new CD, Gypsy Rumble, featuring the Stephane Wrembel Trio with special guest, mandolin guru David Grisman.

According to publicity from the label, Amoeba Records, the CD “is a culturally diverse musical performance fusing jazz, world, bluegrass, folk, and Latino and rock traditions.”

Bob Wills “Tiffany Transcriptions” box set to be released

Los Angeles, Calif. — Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys were the originators and best-known practitioners of Western swing, their repertoire including classics like New San Antonio Rose, Faded Love and Take Me Back to Tulsa. In 1945, Bob Wills teamed up with Oakland, Calif. disc jockey Cliff Cactus Jack Johnson and businessman Clifford Sundlin to launch Tiffany Music, Inc. The companys goal was to supply syndicated radio programs to subscribing stations. Bob Wills and the Playboys were the featured performers.

These programs, known as the Tiffany Transcriptions, have been assembled into a 10-disc, 150-song box set the first-ever box set from venerable reissue label CollectorsChoice Music.
