National banjo champion Sonny Smith is back on the road with two free workshops at Midwestern music stores.
He’ll appear at Uptown Strings, 18 North State St., in Westerville, Ohio, at 7 p.m.Monday, Dec. 7, and then at Guitarworks in Greenwood, Ind., at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Smith won the National Banjo Championship in 1998, the same year his brother Kenny Smith won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Guitar Player of the Year Award.
Sonny Smith performs as a regular at Dollywood during the day in the Smoky Mountain Stringband. At night he performs at the Smoky Mountain Jubilee in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., where he plays banjo and fiddle.
