Roots Music Awards

The Roots Music Association recently announced their annual award winners. The following were announced in the Bluegrass categories.

The Dixie Bee-Liners were named Bluegrass Artist of the Year. Also nominated in that category were the Lonesome River Band, The Steeldrivers, Alison Krauss and Merle Haggard.

Pinecastle Records was named the “Bluegrass Label of the Year” beating out Rounder, Sugar Hill, Skaggs Family Records and Rural Rhythm Records.

Sirius Bluegrass took top Bluegrass Radio Station honors and Dennis Nelson was named the Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year.

Other notable winners were Emmylou Harris took home the Roots / Americana Artist of the Year award and Jerry Yates was named Gospel Artists of the Year award.

Bluegrass Grammy Nominations Announced

The following Artists, Songs and Albums, were nominated for Grammy^® awards last night as during a televised nomination ceremony. The Grammy^® nominations listed below is a partial listing as related to bluegrass music.

Alison Krauss & Robert Plant’s “Raising Sand” (Rounder) picked up 5 nominations, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals, Best Country Collaboration With Vocals and Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album .

The Steeldrivers were nominated for Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals for their song “Blue Side Of The Mountain” from their self-titled debut released on Rounder Records.

Cherryholmes, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Earl Scruggs , the Del McCoury Band and Dan Tyminski were all nominated in the Best Bluegrass album category

Bela Fleck & The Flecktones picked up a nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Album for “Jingle All the Way” on Rounder and Kathy Mattea picked up a nomination for “Coal” under the Best Traditional Folk Album category.
