Nashville, Tenn. — Two-time Grammy nominated artists, The Grascals, are excited to welcome new member Kristin Scott Benson into their musical circle. Kristin, the reigning International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Banjo Player of the Year – has been a professional touring musician since 1996 and brings a new flair to the band by adding her own instrumental prowess and thoughtful performance to an already amazing artistic line-up.
“I’m extremely excited to be a part of The Grascals,” stated Benson. “I look forward to working with these guys and appreciate the opportunity. I’ve been in the business long enough to realize how rare it is to be in such a successful band and I feel blessed that they offered me a chance to be a part of what they’ve already established.”
Kristin Scott Benson’s first performance with the band was on Tennessee Mornings, November 21, 2008. The only way to jump into something is head first and she did just that as the FOX television morning show was broadcast to thousands in the middle Tennessee area.
Growing up a part of a musical family in South Carolina, Kristin Scott Benson stepped on stage at the age of five. She received her first banjo on her 13th Christmas and spent her time studying the music of banjo greats from Earl Scruggs to Bela Fleck. She attended college at Belmont University in Nashville and soon attained a national identity as a top banjo player on the bluegrass scene.
Versatile, soulful and sincere, The Grascals have never sounded better as they make classic bluegrass entirely relevant in the here and now without losing sight of the music’s timeless roots!
