Dailey & Vincent: “Brothers From Different Mothers” March 31

Nashville, Tenn. — As 2008 winds to a close, IBMA Entertainers of the Year Dailey & Vincent are readying their second studio release for Rounder Records. Brothers From Different Mothers, featuring 12 tracks produced by the duo, will be in stores on March 31, 2009.

“We’ve been working extremely hard over the last couple months to finish recording, mixing and mastering this new record, in between tour dates,” said Darrin Vincent. “We really feel like we’ve found a great variety of material–songs that fit us and what we’ve done, while taking several steps forward.”

“This is a really exciting time for us,” adds Jamie Dailey. “While we’re looking ahead to the plans we have for the album release and to our tour schedule for 2009, we’re still overwhelmed and counting all of our blessings from 2008.”

Dailey & Vincent have received nine SPBGMA Bluegrass Music Awards nominations for the awards show to be held on February 15 at the Music City Sheraton in Nashville: Bluegrass Album of the Year (for Dailey & Vincent), Bass Fiddle Performer of the Year (Darrin Vincent), Male Vocalist of the Year/Contemporary (Jamie Dailey), Gospel Group of the Year/Contemporary, Vocal Group of the Year, Bluegrass Band of the Year Overall, Song of the Year (“By the Mark”), Entertaining Group of the Year and Entertainer of the Year (Jamie Dailey).

“We’re deeply honored by these nominations and wish that we were going to be able to be there for the awards show,” said Jamie. Due to a scheduling conflict, however, the duo will not be able to attend. In February 2008 their flight from Kansas City to Boston was cancelled due to a snowstorm, and they missed their scheduled performance at the Joe Val Bluegrass Festival. Jamie and Darrin promised that they would make up the appearance in 2009, not realizing that for the first time, Joe Val and SPBGMA would be held on the same weekend.

In October Dailey & Vincent captured an unprecedented seven International Bluegrass Music Awards. In addition to Entertainer of the Year, they received awards for Vocal Group of the Year, Album of the Year (for Dailey & Vincent), Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year (for “By the Mark”), Emerging Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year (Dailey) and Recorded Event of the Year, for Vincent’s participation in the Everett Lilly & Everybody and Their Brother project. No other artist has ever won Emerging Artist and Entertainer in the same year, a feat all the more incredible because the duo had come on the scene only a year earlier.

Dailey & Vincent made their Grand Ole Opry debut on December 29, 2007, and they have returned for several guest appearances this year. Their first concert date was on January 5, 2008, at Jekyll Island, Georgia. They performed over 130 dates in 2008, wrapping up the year in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, at the Larkin Family Festival on December 12; and in Berryville, Virginia, as part of the Berryville Bluegrass Series on December 13. Dailey & Vincent, their self-titled debut, was released on January 29, 2008, and debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Top Bluegrass Albums chart, where it reached #1 in June and has been in the top 5 for 37 weeks. It was also #1 for 3 months–June, July and August–on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Bluegrass Survey album chart, as well as #1 on the XM Bluegrass Junction Top 40 Albums chart for May and July. It is currently #1 on the Bluegrass Music Profiles album chart for December, where it was also #1 for August and November. Ed Morris at CMT.com chose the CD as one of the ten best country albums of 2008, noting, “When Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent’s voices converge into a plaintive wail, it’s like hearing the Louvin Brothers reborn — but with even more power and urgency.”

The album yielded two #1 songs on the SIRIUS Bluegrass countdown–”By the Mark” was #1 for four consecutive weeks beginning in January, and “More Than a Name on a Wall,” formerly a hit for the Statler Brothers, was #1 for six consecutive weeks in the spring. The album’s lead track, “Sweet Carrie,” was #1 on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Bluegrass Survey song chart for July and the XM Bluegrass Junction Top 30 Tracks chart for July and August. “By the Mark” was #2 on the Bluegrass Unlimited song chart for October and November; it is currently #1 on the Bluegrass Music Profiles Top 30 Hot Singles chart for December, where it was also #1 in June.

Dailey & Vincent were featured on the February cover of Bluegrass Now, the March/April cover of Bluegrass Music Profiles, and the June cover of Bluegrass Unlimited. They have also been featured by Billboard and the Associated Press, and included in a Wall Street Journal story about the current state of bluegrass music. They are part of the Gaither Country Bluegrass Homecoming, Vol. 2 CD and DVD, released this fall, performing “Place on Calvary,” “By the Mark” and “I Believe.”

On June 29 Jamie and Darrin were honored to perform “Do You Know You Are My Sunshine” in tribute to the Statler Brothers at the Country Music Hall of Fame® & Museum’s Medallion Ceremony marking the official induction of the Statlers and Tom T. Hall.
