Wow! Not one, but two Lloyd Loar Gibson F-model mandolins have turned up for sale on the Mandolin Cafe Web site.

One is being advertised as owned by a Kansas family for more than 60 years. It’s advertised as a “1924 Loar Signed Gibson F5 Master Model 76782.” It can be viewed on the Mandolin Cafe classified ad pages or at http://www.electrocoustic.com/F5.htm. Information on inspection and purchase requirements is posted on the latter site.

The other listing is for a mandolin once owned and played by New England bluegrass performer Joe Val.

It’s a Feb 26,1923, Gibson F-5 with a serial number of 72207. The owner, now based in The Netherlands, describes its playing condition as “EXTREMELY FINE,” (the all-capital letters are from the advertiser.)

The owner said the sales offer includes the original case with an attached sales tag that reads, “Gibson: Music Pal Of The Nation $125.00″

The instrument has been owned and played by Kevin Lynch since 1986.

Even though Lynch is now overseas, he said he will “hand deliver, if at all possible” to the successful buyer.

Photos of the instrument have been posted at http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/album.php?u=9600
