Butch Baldassari tributes pile up; services set

Tributes are piling up for the late mandolin great Butch Baldassari, who died this past weekend in a Nashville, Tenn., hospital.

Appropriately, those seem to be finding a central location on the Web site, www.mandolincafe.com, which is an Internet hangout for mandolin enthusiasts.

According to a posting there from Lelia Sinclair Baldassari, Butch Baldassari’s widow, a funeral service will be held Saturday in Scranton, Pa., and a memorial service is planned Jan. 31 at the Blakemore United Methodist Church in Nashville….

Registration starts for Mark O’Connor’s string camps

Registration started this week for Mark O’Connor’s string camp in New York City, and registration dates were announced for camps in Los Angeles and Nashville, Tenn.

O’Connor, the multi-Grammy-Award-winning composer and instrumentalist, has gathered 36 of the world’s top violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists to give aspiring string players, as well as advanced and professional string players, an extraordinary week of instruction and performance at each camp.
