Mark O’Connor will be on NPR’s “All Things Considered” today, March 20 discussing his latest piece “Americana Symphony.” Check for times on NPR’s website.
According to O’Connor, “The host asked some very inquisitive stuff, and I think it will make a very interesting interview. Perhaps the biggest radio feature of my career. I am so gratified they decided to choose my Americana Symphony as the vehicle to tell their listeners about my music!”
In an interview with Martin Steinberg, O’Connor commented on his move from being a first call Nashville session musician to the world of classical music. “When I started this I really thought, No. 1, I wouldn’t perform it (”Fiddle Concerto”), and No. 2, it would not get performed. I was just going to write it for posterity. So I came from a lucrative session career where I made enough money to buy a very nice home and I quit my career cold turkey,” he said. “I just canceled everything. I said, ‘That’s it,’ and I walked away to a lot of people’s dismay.”
