If you love bluegrass — nothing but bluegrass (Newgrass, acoustic and Americana don’t count; I said “nothing but bluegrass.”) — and you have a limited amount of cash in this brow-beaten, rag-tag economy to buy CDs this year, take my advice: Pick up a copy of Audie Blaylock and Redline.

If true unblemished bluegrass were part of a mountain scene, Blaylock’s new CD on the Rural Rhythm Records label would be the pure, clear stream bubbling through the middle of the picture….

Merlefest chooses Finalists for Chris Austin Songwriting Contest

Wilkesboro, N.C. — Finalists have been selected for the 17th annual Chris Austin Songwriting Contest, hosted by MerleFest 2009, scheduled for April 23-26 on the campus of Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro, North Carolina.

Writers of the following twelve songs, selected from 840 entries, will compete on the Austin Stage at MerleFest on Friday, April 24, at 2:00 p.m….

“Nothin But Bluegrass” monthly jam starts up in Palm Coast, FL

Palm Coast, Fla. — The Florida Agricultural Museum in Palm Coast, Fla has announced “Nothin’ But Bluegrass,” a new monthly Bluegrass Jam Session that kicks off on April 18. The family oriented event runs from 4:00 – 11:00 pm at the Florida Agricultural Museum located at 7900 Old Kings Road in Palm Coast.
