Wednesday Night Fiddlin’” is a new feature coming to The Violin Shop in Nashville, Tenn.

The shop, at 220 Old Hickory Boulevard, has gained fame in recent years for its Fiddle Masters Concert Series DVDs. It’s also the preferred outlet for sales, repairs and instrument set-up for many top fiddlers in bluegrass and country music.

According to PR material, the DVD series “is quite simply the finest collection of fiddle performances ever captured on DVD. Recorded “live” in an intimate 50-seat concert room, fiddlers at the top of their game are accompanied by some of the finest musicians and singers in the world. The result: 64 astonishing performances, released on 3 volumes, featuring 53 musicians from 13 different concerts. These DVD’s offer a unique and fresh combination of music and film with an extremely high level of performance and production.”

Wednesday Night Fiddlin’” will be hosted by Brian Christianson who has been dubbed “The Tone Enhancer” at the shop. Christianson, one of the business’s owners, has been with The Violin Shop since 2002.

In 2000, he earned a degree in violin repair at Minnesota State College. This program focused on traditional methods of instrument repair and setup, as well as the basic techniques of violin making. Christianson spends a lot of time restoring and rebuilding older violins. He has also become very well educated about violins and continues to assist customers with exceptional setups and repair work.

Christianson has been playing fiddle since age eight, and mandolin since age 10. In 1997, he was named Minnesota’s Top Country Instrumentalist and several times he has been the Minnesota State Fiddle Champion.

Since moving to Nashville in 2000, Christianson’s playing has grown to include many styles including bluegrass, swing, and jazz. He is currently playing with Mike Snider’s band.

The Wednesday night events, which will run throughout the year, will begin at 7:30 p.m. and carry a $5 admission charge. Light refreshments and snacks will be available.
