Nashville, Tenn., — Adding new entries to their already long list of accomplishments, Ronnie and Rob McCoury received “Distinguished Alumni” awards on Thursday, June 4th during commencement exercises at their alma mater, Susquehannock High School in York County, PA. The high school’s alumni association annually selects a “Distinguished Alumni,” and this year, because of the McCoury brothers’ many shared achievements, they chose to honor both brothers. In addition to the honor of addressing the graduating class, they will receive plaques, and their photos, along with a description of their achievements, will join a permanent display in the lobby of the high school.
As members of the Del McCoury Band since their teens, Rob and Ronnie have certainly earned the “Distinguished Alumni” title. They’ve won or been nominated for numerous awards for their expert musicianship (including multiple Grammy nominations and one Grammy Award) and have been an integral part of the most awarded band in the history of bluegrass. Throughout their career, Ronnie and Rob have had the honor of playing many of the most prestigious venues in America including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, as well as countless times at the famed Grand Ole Opry. They’ve also appeared at some of the nation’s biggest music festivals, including Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Festival, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, Austin City Limits Music Festival, New Orleans Jazz Fest and Merlefest. And just this year, Rob and Ronnie launched a new phase in their joint career, stepping out in a new configuration called The Travelin’ McCourys, winning quick success and furthering the McCoury’s musical legacy.

You’ve gotta love the McCoury’s. I’ve always wanted to check out Del Fest but I haven’t gotten the chance yet.
