Big Fat Gap

Wake Forest, N.C. — PineCone and the Town of Wake Forest present a free concert featuring Big Fat Gap on Sunday, August 2 at the Town’s new E. Carroll Joyner Park. The concert, which starts at 5 p.m., will be the first performance at the park, which is the newest in the Wake Forest Parks system. The park includes a 1000 lawn-seat amphitheatre, a performance area, the Walker garden, restored farm buildings and pecan grove, restrooms, pond, and approximately three miles of walking trails. Approximately half of the 117-acre park, located at 701 Harris Road, will be open meadows.

Big Fat Gap is a back porch bluegrass band that has no plans to take Nashville by storm. Some of them even have day jobs. They just like to pick, they like each other, and it shows in their performances, which are known to be excellent for those who enjoy sweet three-part harmonies, smoking solos, and captivating stage dynamics.

They got their name from one of the few remaining stands of old growth virgin forest in western North Carolina, located in the Big Fat Gap in Graham County near the Tennessee border. They are: Miles Andrews on lead vocals and bass, Rick Hauchman on mandolin and vocals, Andy Thorn on banjo, Bobby Britt on fiddle and Jamie Griggs on guitar.

Bring some friends, bring a picnic, and enjoy an afternoon of bluegrass music in the open air. Bring your family and friends, lawn chairs, and a picnic to Wake Forest’s new Joyner Park for an afternoon of music for the whole family!
