Stevie Coyle "Ten In One"

My First exposure to Stevie Coyle’s brand of music was at Merlefest a couple years back. A good friend who I hadn’t seen in years insisted that Merlefest was a “must do” experience and I needed to be there and if I saw nothing else, “I had to see this band, The Waybacks.” So off my wife, daughter and I went.

By the end of the first Waybacks set I was hooked and a big reason was Stevie Coyle.

Coyle proved to be an extraordinary finger-style guitarist. Vocally, I’d call Coyle a songwriter’s singer at best, though you’d be hard pressed to find anyone else sing a Stevie Coyle song and have it be half as memorable as Coyle’s delivery. Then there was Coyle’s witty humorous banter with the audience between and during songs. Add all that up and Coyle makes as fine a musician and front man as you’d hope to find.

At some point between that Merlefest appearance and now Coyle left the Waybacks and set out as solo act.

Coyle recently released his new solo concept album “Ten In One.” In an interview with Me & Thee Coffee House, Stevie Coyle described Ten In One, “My solo album is done done done, and as it turns out, it’s a far cry from the sweet, simple little fingerstyle album I thought I was making when I started a year and a half ago. But lordy, when The Muse taps you, you gotta answer. Especially if she taps you with a baseball bat. For much of the making of this record I felt like I was just taking dictation from my own subconscious. What a wave THAT was to ride!”

Ten in One features Coyle long with Mike Marshall, Philip Aaberg, Kit Walker, Hank Roberts, Sam Bevan, Kendrick Freeman, Corinne West, Heidi Clare, Marla Fibish, Teresa Tudury, Mike Phelan, Rachel Tree, Misty Browning, Rich DePaolo, Dr. Robby Virus and producer Walter Strauss.

Ten in One on CD is available for order through Stevie Coyles website. You can also sample and purchase CD quality 16bit / 44.1Khz wav files of single tracks or the whole album at Stevie Coyle’s online store here.
