Virtuoso fiddler Fred Carpenter and acclaimed guitarist Tim May have joined forces to create an explosive yet soulful musical duo.
When autumn evenings turn cooler, don’t look for Hot Fiddle Nights at The Violin Shop in Nashville, Tenn., to come to an end. The famous fiddle store has announced that it plans to continue the series with a fall lineup to be released in the near future.
Meanwhile, the summer series continues at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.9, with Shad and Jesse Cobb. And the summer series closer, featuring Fred Carpenter and Tim May on Sept. 23, has been moved to Nashville’s Station Inn, Music City’s Bluegrass Mecca.
The Hot Fiddle Night events include a one-hour show followed by an after-show party and jam session, so attendees are encouraged to bring their instruments. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.
The Violin Shop is located at 220 Old Hickory Boulevard.
Admission to the The Hot Fiddle Nights shows is $10, including the one at the Station Inn.

Shad Cobb & Jesse Cobb
After landing in Nashville, Shad Cobb played with country music star Mark Wills for three years. Later, after a stint with the Osborne Brothers, he spent time playing with Mike Snider, a banjo player/comedian who was a regular on the Grand Ole Opry. That’s how Shad came to John Cowan’s attention. John heard him on the Opry and before long invited him to join The John Cowan Band, which is his current gig.

Fred Carpenter & Tim May
For the Sept. 23 show at the Station Inn, virtuoso fiddler Fred Carpenter and acclaimed guitarist Tim May have joined forces to create an explosive, soulful musical duo. Drawing from several styles of roots music, both vocal and instrumental, this duo creates a sound that is distinctively branded their own. The music features elements of bluegrass, swing, rock, blues, Celtic and original material.
Fred Carpenter has toured and recorded with The Tony Rice Unit, Emmylou Harris & the Hot Band, Suzy Boggus, Kathy Mattea, George Strait and others. Tim May has toured with Patty Loveless, Eddie Rabbitt and John Cowan, and has worked regularly on the Grand Ole Opry with Mike Snider.
Their show features a combination of instrumentals mixed with strong, seasoned vocals. Both musicians are masterfully accomplished on several instruments including fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo and dobro.
