Boom! Boom! A double-barrel shot is headed toward the bluegrass kingdom from highly decorated marksman Del McCoury.

Next Tuesday, McCoury will release the new CD by The Del McCoury Band and also announce the preliminary lineup for his 2010 Delfest music festival.

“Family Circle,” the new CD, is the band’s first full non-gospel studio release since his 2005 Grammy winner.

The two-fisted event will cap one of McCoury’s busiest years yet, starting with the release of a critically acclaimed, career-spanning boxed set, and including appearances at premiere festivals such as the New Orleans Jazz
Fest, Merlefest, High Sierra, Bonnaroo, the Newport Jazz Fest and the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, not to mention a weather-challenged spring Delfest.

Kicking off the day Tuesday, McCoury will visit IBMA Broadcaster of the Year Katy Daley on WAMU’s Bluegrass Country at 9 a.m. Eastern time to announce the DelFest lineup, air selections from “Family Circle” and take calls from fans.

Delfest, staged the past two years at thel Allegany County Fairgrounds in Cumberland, Md., has gained a reputation for the diversity of its performers.

Though “Family Circle” becomes available for purchase on Tuesday, the album has been available for streaming online and early responses have been overwhelmingly positive. Not content to rest on his laurels, McCoury took charge of production for the project, and the result is a deeply personal set of bluegrass and more, crafted by an ensemble—sons Ron (mandolin) and Rob (banjo), along with long-time fiddler Jason Carter and bass man Alan Bartram.

“I pretty much put this together on my own—and I really like it,” McCoury said of his new CD. “I didn’t start out to do something different, but that’s how it turned out”
