Wilmington, OH., — Award-winning Bluegrass acts take the stage during The Southern Ohio Indoor Music Festival, November 13 and 14, at the Roberts Convention Centre in Wilmington. This is one of the Midwest’s most entertaining acoustic music events, occurring twice a year, in March and November.
The Southern Ohio Indoor Music Festival features bluegrass, old-time and gospel music. Nationally and internationally known acoustic music groups are billed for November.
In addition to enjoying entertainment by bluegrass all-stars such as bluegrass music’s 2009 Entertainers of the Year, Dailey and Vincent, Nothin’ Fancy, Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out and the Queen of bluegrass music, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, the festival has incorporated new features.
The Southern Ohio Indoor Music Festival will feature a Teacher Workshop on Friday entitled Utilizing Bluegrass in the Classroom, presented by the Foundation for Bluegrass Music. This workshop is for classroom or music teachers, administrators, curriculum specialists, librarians, homeschooling parents, college students majoring in education, youth group leaders and bluegrass association leaders. Class size is limited to 50 participants. Certificates for professional development credit will be issued upon completion of the course. For additional details about this special workshop opportunity, see somusicfest.com or call 937-372-5804.
The festival will also feature a Songwriting Workshop on Friday hosted by one of Nashville’s best songwriters, Larry Cordle, and Mark “Brink” Brinkman. Saturday, attendees will have a chance to participate in a Monroe-Style Mandolin Instruction Workshop with Mark “Brink” Brinkman.
Humana will host the Jam Session Central area for pickers. From 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day, kids will have an opportunity to jam with some of their favorite musicians.
Door prizes, raffle prizes, an instrument check, food and various vendors offer value-added extras to all attendees in a smoke and alcohol free environment. One of the top raffle prizes is provided by The Mandolin Store, a Martin DX-1 Dreadnaught Acoustic Guitar.
The Roberts Centre, located 12 miles south of Xenia, 5 miles north of Wilmington at the intersection of US 68 and I-71, exit 50, is convenient to fans from all over Ohio and neighboring states. This accessible location is less than an hour drive from Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus. The Roberts Centre also includes a Holiday Inn hotel, Max and Erma’s Restaurant, and RV parking adding to the comfort and convenience of the attendees.
