According to the Deering Banjo player, guitarists “have a skill set that makes them natural banjo players.” Deering has heard from both novice and seasoned guitar players who for years have been drawn to the magical sound of the “five string” banjo that “Banjo is cool.”
In a bid to introduce the banjo players outside the realm of bluegrass, the Deering Banjo Company has unveiled two new 5-string Acoustic / Electric Banjo packages designed with the guitar player in mind. The Sierra Acoustic / Electric Banjo and The Goodtime Acoustic / Electric package both feature the innovative new Kavanagh head that features a humbucker style pickup. The jack is mounted through the rim on the open back Goodtime banjo and is mounted on the flange of the Sierra resonator model.
With this innovative new humbucker style pickup, both professional performers and banjo enthusiasts have access to affordable and effective amplification that is feedback resistant. The pickup system is compatible with virtually all other effects, pedals, etc.
“Many guitar players think they have to play bluegrass in order to play the 5-string banjo. Nothing is further from the truth! The 5-string banjo can be played in any musical style and has found its home in rock and roll and other popular styles of main stream music. Performing artists like Bela Fleck, Al Caldwell, Avett Brothers, The Garth Brooks Band, to name a few; have taken the 5-string banjo well beyond the bounds of bluegrass.” Deering Banjo Company
The new 5-string Acoustic / Electric banjo packages from the Deering Banjo Company include a strap, extra strings, and an instructional book with CD to make getting started even easier as well as offering them the versatility of playing acoustically or with amplification. The Sierra Acoustic / Electric banjo package retails for $2949, including case. The Goodtime Acoustic / Electric retails for only $788. These are available now through authorized Deering dealers.
