Nashville, Tenn., — Viktor Krauss and Angel Snow have spent more than six months collaborating and will debut their new music in a special 4-week series at East Nashville hotspot Mad Donna’s starting November 29th. This unique musical pairing fuses a variety of genres and a range of influences, from folk to jazz.
The artists have been touring separately and are looking forward to sharing their latest work with the hometown crowd. Folk singer Snow has spent much of the summer and fall on the road, and renowned composer and multi-instrumentalist Krauss has been touring with longtime collaborator Lyle Lovett.
Special guests are set to join Snow and Krauss for each Sunday evening performance, with Julie Lee, Sarah Siskind, The Bittersweets, and Jennifer Nicely already on the line-up. Very special surprise guests are also expected.
Snow and Krauss were first introduced by Viktor’s sister, acclaimed artist Alison Krauss.
About Viktor Krauss
Those who know Bassist/Composer Viktor Krauss primarily by his supporting roles with Lyle Lovett, Bill Frisell, Jerry Douglas, and scores of others, might be surprised by the eclectic range of his original music. On the other hand, listeners familiar with Krauss’ remarkable 2004 solo debut, Far From Enough (Nonesuch), and attuned to the finer details of his recording and touring credits—with everyone from Carly Simon, Elvis Costello, John Fogerty, film composer James Newton Howard, and Graham Nash to Chet Atkins, the Chieftains, and Joan Baez—will find his most recent release II quite consonant with that eclectic track record.
The Champaign, Illinois native turned Nashville resident is a multi-instrumentalist with interests in film scores, jazz, rock, R&B, and pop. Inspired by Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, the Police, and, especially Led Zeppelin, Krauss began writing his own genre-bridging music.
At the University of Illinois, Krauss studied bass performance. Shortly after graduating with a degree in music composition, Krauss launched his professional career, recording and touring with Peter Rowan and the Free Mexican Air Force (1992–’93) and, in 1994, striking up the long-term musical relationship with Lyle Lovett that has encompassed many tours and recordings.
By 2003—his résumé brimming with credits that include Bill Frisell, Mindy Smith, Jerry Douglas, John Fogerty, and film scores—Krauss was ready to step out with his own recording. Far From Enough, which reached No. 6 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart, featured Frisell, Douglas, and drummer Steve Jordan, with Alison Krauss adding viola and vocals.
For his latest, II, Krauss wanted to explore a sound that achieves a hybrid of his favorite two genres, music for film and classic rock.
About Angel Snow
When Angel Snow sings, she hands her heart to the listener, pouring out raw emotion through honest and introspective music. Her unique sound—classic Americana folk with a modern edge—provides a soulful backdrop for lyrics based on everything from personal experiences to vivid dreams. The result of this passionate songwriting is her debut album, Fortune Tellers.
Angel settled in Nashville after spending five years traveling and performing, bringing her fervent sound to venues in New York, Atlanta, California, Wyoming, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Chattanooga.
Musical talent came naturally and easily to Angel growing up in tiny Chickamauga, Georgia, and songwriting grew to be her most passionate artistic outlet.
Angel, the youngest of three siblings, was named by her older brothers, who were five and three at the time. Growing up, her brothers influenced her love for all kinds of music with their own varied tastes ranging from folk and classical, to Faith No More and The Cure. Angel was influenced by all these styles and continues to embrace all genres, listing Leonard Cohen, Robert Smith, Thom Yorke, Otis Redding and Elliott Smith as her favorite musicians.
