Band leader Greg Cahill has seen a ton of changes over the years with Special Consensus.
A lot of years — 35 to be exact — and a lot of different musicans coming and going.
On the heels of the departure of guitarist and vocalist Justin Carbone in September, Cahill’s mandolin player, Ashby Frank has also left the band.
For Cahill, it’s part of the territory and the show must go on. On the threshold of his 35th year, Cahill is taking his band into the recording studio to put down six new tracks featuring his two newest members , Canadian Ryan Roberts on guitar and Rick Faris on mandolin.
The six tracks will become part of a special CD Chicago-based Special Consensus is doing for its 35th anniversary. The remainder of the CD will be comprised of songs Special Consensus has recorded over the past three and a half decades.
The 35th anniversary celebration will culminate wilth a special concert at the Old Town School Of Folk
Music in Chicago on Oct. 23. A large number of Special Consensus veterans are expected to attend and perform.
