Pinecastle Records continues to be in the spotlight as it celebrates its 20th anniversary. The label is featured in the January/February issue of Bluegrass Music Profiles. In a published interview, Col. Tom Riggs, the label’s founder and president, looks back on Pinecastle’s two-decade history.
Spartanburg (N.C.) Magazine is also planning an upcoming feature on the label as is Bluegrass Unlimited.
Celebrating isn’t all the label is doing in this anniversary year. It’s just shipped two CDs to radios that hold the promise of being chart climbers.
One is a 20th anniversary CD for Larry Stephenson. It includes plenty of guests who pay tribute with their presence on the CD. Included are Connie Smith and Marty Stuart, Del McCoury, Ricky Skaggs, Dailey & Vincent, Kristin Scott Benson, Dale Ann Bradley, Dudley Connell, Sonny Osborne, David Parmley and Ronnie Reno.
The other new Pinecastle release is “Down Home,” Josh Williams’ third solo project and his first CD since 2004. Williams teams up with his old bandmates from Rhonda Vincent & The Rage — Mickey Harris on bass and Kenny Ingram on banjo — and Rhonda Vincent also shows up on the album. Other musicians taking guest slots are Tony Rice, Dailey & Vincent, Aaron McDaris, Randy Kohrs, Stuart Duncan and Greg Cahill.
Both CDs are due to hit the streets on Feb. 23.
