Williamsburg, VA — Colonial Williamsburg and the Virginia Arts Festival have formed a partnership to bring nationally renowned performers to Williamsburg, Virginia with a series of concerts throughout the year. Grammy winner and crossover artist Kathy Mattea headlines “Winter Concert Weekend” February 27th, with two performances in the Virginia Room of the Williamsburg Lodge.

Kathy Mattea’s two concerts on Saturday, February 27th, highlight an entire weekend of musical performances. Local favorite Poisoned Dwarf, a traditional Celtic band led by Colonial Williamsburg’s Music Program Manager Lance Pedigo, kicks off the weekend Friday evening with “Pints, Pairings and Poisoned Dwarf” performing its Celtic sounds in the Lodge Restaurant.

Concert guests attending Mattea’s second performance can enjoy a pre-concert dinner in the Lodge Restaurant. Guests can continue to enjoy music during the informal “Tapas and Tunes” in the Lobby Lounge following Mattea’s performance. The weekend of music concludes with the “Song of the South Sunday Brunch” at the Williamsburg Lodge.

Tickets to the Kathy Mattea Concert are $35 and $45; seating is limited. The weekend event also offers a hotel package and will feature various music and dining events. Additional guest artists will be announced later this year. To purchase tickets and hotel lodgings visit colonialwilliamsburg.com/kathymattea.

Kathy Mattea is a cross-over artist known for such classics as “18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses” and “Where’ve You Been.” She grew up near Charleston, W.Va., and the cultural heritage of mining and the Appalachians is apparent in her music. Her most recent album, COAL, is an ode to the work and the lives of coal miners.

Colonial Williamsburg and the Virginia Arts Festival collaborated after the success of the 2009 Festival Williamsburg.

“Expanding our relationship with the Virginia Arts Festival is an important part of our strategy to reach new audiences,” said Colin Campbell, president of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. “Colonial Williamsburg can be a destination for music lovers, as well as those who are passionate about history.”

“The Winter Concert Series with Kathy Mattea is the first step in building a program that will garner national attention – and it’s a nice preview of Festival Williamsburg, when Broadway performer Kelli O’Hara appears in the Virginia Room on May 29, 2010,” said Rob Cross, executive director of the Virginia Arts Festival.
