Danny Roberts Biography
Danny Roberts is currently the mandolinist for Rounder Recording Artists The Grascals who formed in 2004. Danny (along with The Grascals original lineup) was a member Dolly Parton’s road band from 2004 – 2005.
Danny Roberts was born at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, Ill. and grew up in Leitchfield, Kentucky and began playing guitar at the age of 13 to back up former band mate Jimmy Mattingly at contests. Roberts picked up the Mandolin at the age of 20.
In 1982, Danny Roberts was a founding member of the band New Tradition. New Tradition won the SPBGMA Bluegrass Band Competion 4 times and were nominated for several SPBGMA and Dove awards during their run. Roberts and New Tradition recorded 10 CDs as a band and were in regular rotation on CMT and TNN (The Nashville Network) with the video for “Seed of Love” which was the first bluegrass video to feature the banjo. The video went on to reach #1 on TNN.
In addition to recordings with The Grascals and New Tradition, Danny Roberts has recorded with Ronnie Reno and the Reno Tradition, Hank Williams Jr., Dierks Bentley and Dolly Parton among others. Roberts also released “Mandolin Orchard” for Butler Music Group in 2004. Of the projects 11 songs, 10 feature original compositions by Roberts.
Danny Roberts also has a long history with Gibson (Original Acoustic Instrument division) and has worked in various capacities for Gibson re-creating the Loar era F5 Gibson mandolins. Danny Roberts is currently employed by Gibson in the acoustic instrument repair department estimating repair jobs for the company.
