Cadillac Sky in contention for IBMA 2008 Emerging Artist honor
Cadillac Sky performing “You Again” at the 2008 Doyle Lawson Bluegrass Festival.
With its second CD release now out and about, Cadillac Sky has impressed enough peers to land on the finalist list for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Emerging Artist of the Year award.
Known as genre benders, the group traces its roots to 2002 in Texas, where songwriter and mandolinist Bryan Simpson teamed up with banjo picker Matt Menefee. They soon widened their musical circle with Mike Jump, Ross Holmes and Andy “Panda” Moritz.
The band’s first CD, “Blind Man Walking,” on Skaggs Family Records was recently followed by “Gravity’s Our Enemy” on the same label. Skaggs Family publicists say the new CD “takes one creative leap after another, proving that they are not only an impressive bluegrass band, but also true innovators of the genre.”
“Combining hearts and hooks, the traditional and the revolutionary, and pulling sounds from all genres, Cadillac Sky’s sound is the fruition of bandleader Bryan Simpson’s groundbreaking vision to create a bluegrass band built for the 21st Century,” according to the Skaggs Family Records Web site.

Daily, Vincent nominated for IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year
The bluegrass world predicted — no, expected — from the git-go that Dailey & Vincent would be huge. Everything that’s happened since the start of 2008 and the official start of the duo’s career has proven the expectations to be dead on. Among the many award nominations (10 in all) the group has received from the International Bluegrass Music Association this year is a bid for Emerging Artist of the Year.
Both Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent have been in the spotlight for many years, or at least on the fringe of the spotlight. Dailey gained a following when he toured several years with Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. Vincent went down the same path with his sideman roll with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder.
They made their debut appearance just a couple of days before New Year’s Eve at the Grand Ole Opry, and then hit the road shortly after the New Year was celebrated.
Dailey & Vincent are at the top of the Bluegrass Unlimited National Record Survey albums chart for August, marking the third consecutive month they have been at No. 1 with their self-titled debut CD. Their touring band includes fiddler Adam Haynes, Joe Dean on banjo and Jeff Parker on mandolin.
