Flat Rock Music Festival drafting volunteers for 2008 festival
Flat Rock, NC — The 13th annual Flat Rock Music Festival is again looking for volunteers for the 2008 festival. Applicants are encouraged to go to the website: http://www.flatrockmusicfestival.com to register as a candidate for consideration. All applications must be submitted no later than September 5th, 2008. Eight (8) hours - 2 (4 hour) shifts are compensated for one festival ticket and camping permit.
The Flat Rock Music Festival is one of the largest in the area, with multiple choices for volunteer placement. “Our volunteers are the backbone of our event,” states Sarah Benoit, volunteer coordinator. “The festival director and staff know we count on our family of volunteers to support the festival. Without everyone who chooses to contribute their time the festival wouldn’t run nearly as smoothly,” said Benoit.
“Plus the people who have been involved with this festival in the past are some of the most fun loving and amazing people I have ever met,” Benoit continues. Volunteer positions are available in security, parking, kitchen staff, Kid’s Village staff, waterfront, housekeeping, set up and clean up.
The 2008 Festival is home to the Flat Rock Music Festival Emerging Songwriter’s Contest, which features singer/songwriters from all over the Southeast. Talented songwriters and musicians compete for a chance to play the Main Stage if they are picked and win the Showcase.

Flat Rock, NC — The 13th annual Flat Rock Music Festival will be held September 26-28th, 2008 this year. The festival boasts 3 stages with over 35 performers. Highlights include Sonny Landreth, The Iguanas, The SteelDrivers, Toni Price, Missy Raines and The New Hip, The Wiyos & The Biscuit Burners along with many more artists over the three day festival at Camp Ton-A-Wandah in Flat Rock, NC. Every year the Festival strives to provide a family friendly environment with some of the best musical talents from all over the Southeast. Relax with family and loved ones while you enjoy music, camping, boating, and swimming.
Early Bird tickets are available this year through September 5th - as are Volunteer applications. Each ticket includes a three day camping permit and access to the vendors and amenities at the all girls camp founded in 1933 by Grace B. Haynes. Early bird tickets are $80.00 for adults and 40.00 for children aged 11-17. All children 10 and under are free. Gate ticket prices are $95.00 for adults and $47.50 for children.
Activities for the three day event include an expanded Kid’s Village, food and beer vendors, Midnight Gym Jams, the 2008 Emerging Singer/Songwriter Contest where the first place prize is a Main Stage appearance at the 2009 Festival, Open Mics and Song Circles. There is expanded workshops this year due to the overwhelming response last year, with guided workshops by artists and music industry professionals who will help with hints about songwriting, stage performance, creative writings and much more.

Flat Rock Fall Festival announces September lineup
The Flat Rock Music Festival has announced the lineup for their upcoming September (26-28) festival in Flat Rock, NC. Bluegrass Artists on the bill include: Missy Raines and The New Hip, The SteelDrivers, The Biscuit Burners and Dehlia Low. Other Notables playing Flat Rock include Slide guitar virtuoso, Sonny Landreth, Sarah White, Seth Walker and The Iguanas.
The festival’s organizers have also made some “changes in the staff, campground and over all processes” to improve this year’s Flat Rock Festival experience.
Bluegrass Festival and Events Calendar
May 29 - Jun 1 — Preston Bluegrass Festival - Preston, CT. Artists scheduled to perform include Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, The Grascals, Dry Branch Fire Squad, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Tony Trischka, The Greencards, Karl Shiflett & Big Country, Dale Ann Bradley, The Gibson Brothers and more. The Festival will also feature the Strawberry Park Bluegrass Festival Kids Academy offering kids, age 8-18, instruction on the following instruments: guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and bass, and also in vocals.
May 30 - Jun 1 — Minnesota Homegrown Kickoff in Richmond, MN offers a “three-day outdoor music & camping festival with stage shows by more than twenty regional performers of traditional bluegrass, old-time stringband, and related forms of acoustic music. Plus workshops, the Gathering Place, and plenty of campground jam sessions.” The festival is put on by the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Association.

Flat Rock, NC — April 19th is only weeks away and the Flat Rock Music Festival is gearing up for it’s 2nd Annual Spring Fling. The festival takes place at Camp Ton-A-Wandah in Flat Rock, NC and will feature the Biscuit Burners, Moonshine Babies with Marc Yaxley, Matt Walsh (Kansas City Blues Man), The Dirty Rug Band and local favorites The Smokey Joe Show.
Ticket prices are $50 for adults and $25 for children that includes music, catered BBQ dinner, camping and parking. The event is rain or shine with all artists performing in the camp’s gym.
There will be plenty of activities to participate in addition to the music. Kids arts, crafts and games are planned. Massage therapists will be available along with beer and wine available for sale. A limited amount of beds and cabins are available. The public will need to register early for the weekend to reserve these accomodations. No hookups are available, but RV camping is allowed with RVs and trailers under 35 feet.

The Flat Rock Music Festival in Flat Rock, N.C., will hold a Spring Time Evening on April 19 from 3 p.m. to midnight.
The event, to take place at Camp Ton-A-Wandah in Flat Rock, will feature five bands, a catered dinner and camping for one ticket price of $50.
The bluegrass genre will be represented by The Biscuit Burners, which have been featured on NPR’s “Mountain Stage”, and XM Radio’s Bluegrass Junction.
Other groups on the playbill include the Dirty Rug Band, Moon Shine Babies with special guest guitartist Marc Yaxley, Matt Walsh and the Smokey Joe Show.
Camping will be restricted to inside the festival grounds.
