McReynolds dailey radio show catching on
“Daily radio shows were the norm for performers when Jim and I started,” he said. “I wanted to go back and capture the way radio use to be a long time ago. This is a little different because it’s a little like an interview show.”
Each weekday morning now Jesse with his able co-host Harv Mason sit down in the living room of The Pick Inn, a hilltop log cabin on 32 acres overlooking Old Hickory Lake, where the McReynolds’ host weddings, music concerts, festivals, and teaches workshops.
Often the radio show includes downhome commercials, guests dropping by telling stories and jokes, musicians playing tunes and joining in on the fun by singing a song or just providing applause and laughter. An audience is also welcome.
“Instead of having all professionals come in, I just like to sit down and pick with ordinary people,” he said “It’s more like a family get together - like a jam session.”
“The Pick Inn Party Radio Show” airs from 8-9 a.m. (CST, 9-10 a.m. Eastern) on WHIN 1010 AM and can be found live on the web at whinradio.com. The show features live music and recorded music from the Jim and Jesse catalog, phone call-ins and guests.
“We are getting calls from all over the country,” he said. “It is amazing how people are giving us compliments about how they enjoy the radio show.”

No commentsJesse McReynolds hosting new radio show
Starting this week, two new voices are riding the morning airwaves over the greater Nashville, Tenn., area.
Grand Ole Opry star and Bluegrass legend Jesse McReynolds Monday started co-hosting a morning radio show with his old friend Harv Mason. The show is being broadcast before a live audience from McReynolds’ new music park, The Pick Inn near Gallatin.
Jesse chose WHIN 1010 AM radio for its strong signal (covering the greater Nashville area in addition to Sumner County) and down-home flavor. Jesse’s show will be called “The Pick Inn Party with Jesse McReynolds & Harv Mason in the Morning”.
Mason formerly hosted the KN Country radio show out of Lebanon that was popular for many years before the studio burned down in a fire. It was through this show that McReynolds became acquainted with Mason.
The radio show will air Mondays through Fridays from 8 to 9 a.m. on WHIN 1010 AM in Gallatin. It immediately follows “The Breakfast Club,” which airs live from the Chick-fil-A in Gallatin.
The show will feature music, talk, call-ins, and special guests, live from “The Pick Inn,” a rustic log cabin located in McReynolds’ park. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. for the live radio audience to attend at no charge.
The Pick Inn is located across the street from the Bledsoe Creek State Park at 550 Ziegler’s Fort Road in Gallatin.
Call-ins will be accepted throughout the show’s hour-long run. Numbers to call are (615)451-PICK (7425) or toll-free at (866) 570- PICK
No comments15th annual McReynolds Memorial to help Butch Baldassari
More good people and good deeds keep roaring forward to come to the aid of mandolinist Butch Baldassari and his family. The latest comes from a fellow mandolinist, Grand Ol’ Opry star Jesse McReynolds, who is hosting the 15th annual McReynolds Memorial, billed as a Bluegrass Music Spectacular on Jan. 31 at the Gallatin, Tenn., Civic Center.
This year’s show, beginning at 6:30 p.m. is also billed as “a Fundraiser and Benefit Concert for Butch Baldassari and his family in their fight against cancer.”
Baldassari has been battling an inoperable brain tumor for close to a year.
The annual Gallatin benefit is sponsored by the Southeast Community Fire Department.
This year’s show will feature Jesse McReynolds & the Virginia Boys, The Grascals, Ronnie Reno & the Reno Tradition, Williams and Clark Expedition, Larry Stevenson, Luke McKnight and Thunderoad, Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time and other special guests.
In another recent gesture of kindness to Baldassari and his family, four noted mandolin makers have donated new instruments to be sold as another fundraiser.
According to mandolincafe.com, which is helping with the fundraiser, the first of four mandolins in the possession of Gruhn Guitars of Nashville went on sale in December. The mandolins are from Gibson, Weber, Collings and Trinity College.
“Links to the individual sales of the instruments will appear on the Mandolin Cafe Classifieds with all questions and control of the mandolins (shipping, financial transactions, etc.) handled by the staff of Gruhn Guitars,” according to MandolineCafe.com.
Participant web sites include:
Gruhn Guitars
Collings Guitars and Mandolins
Weber Fine Acoustic Instruments
Trinity College (parent company Saga)
