John Hartford exhibit opens Jan. 24 at Country Hall of Fame

Nashville, Tenn. — John Hartford’s storied life and uniquely American music is the subject of the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum’s newest spotlight exhibit, John Hartford: Ever Smiling, Ever Gentle on My Mind, which opens January 24, 2009. The exhibit examines many aspects of Hartford’s career, including his songwriting success with the country-pop standard “Gentle on My Mind”; his experimental and influential approach to traditional music; and his endeavors as an artist, performer, steamboat pilot, author and historian.

Producers seek contributions to finish Hartford documentary

An all-out effort — including fundraising — is under way to put the finishing touches on a video documentary entitled “The Life and Music of John Hartford.”

It’s being undertaken by two media professionals who are also musicians and self-professed admirers of the late Hartford, best known to the generic music world as writer of the Glen Campbell classic, “Gentle on My Mind,” a song that barely scratched the surface of Hartford’s unique view of the world and life.
