The Kruger Brothers will headline the sixth annual Kingfield POPS Festival in Kingfield, Maine, on June 28.

It’s a return engagement for the North Carolina-based act, which performed at the 2006 celebration.

The festival is billed as an “annual, family-friendly outdoor concert,” historically draws about 2,000 attendees.

The Krugers — Swiss-born brothers Jens (on banjo) and guitarist Ewe Kruger and bassist Joel Landsberg — are well known and well liked in these parts, not only for their talents, but also for supporting music programs at two local school districts since their first festival appearance.

The music portion of the festival is held at Kennedy Farm near Kingfield. Gates open there at 4 p.m. The downtown portion of the festival features booths and exhibits from more than 30 artists and artisans. Music acts for the area will perform in the downtown area from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition, The Bangor Symphony Orchestra is furnishing two of its ensembles to perform during the day.

The Krugers, incidentally, have a strong link to the Bangor Symphnoy. The trio performed and recorded Jens Kruger’s composition, “Music from the Spring: A Romantic Serenade for Banjo, Guitar, Bass & Orchestra,” with the symphony a year ago.

Details of that project, which was selected for a National Endowment for the Arts award for artistic excellence, can be obtained at www.krugerbrothers.com
