Watson, Scruggs, Carters are charter Hall members
Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs and The Carter Family are among the charter inductees to the Blue Ridge Hall of Fame.Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs and The Carter Family are among the charter inductees into the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame, which will hold its first induction gala on June 13.
The ceremony will take place at the Walker Center at Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro,N.C., famed home of MerleFest.
The Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame itself will be housed on the second floor of the Wilkes Heritage Museum in the restored old Wilkes Courthouse in downtown Wilkesboro.
Other charter inductees will include Tommy Jarrell, Dolly Parton,David Johnson, Ralph Rinzler, Ralph Epperson, Wayne Henderson and Sam Love Queen Sr.
“The Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame will honor those involved with music of any kind who were either born or active within the greater Blue Ridge Mountains area, running from north Georgia to northern Virginia, or who contributed to the music associated with traditions of the Blue Ridge, such as ballads, old-time, bluegrass, and gospel,” explained Art Menius, the hall of fame’s first chairman.

The Carter FamilyThe Original Carter Family is this year’s inductee into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame at the Bill Monroe Memorial Bluegrass Park in Bean Blossom, Ind., regarded by many as Bluegrass’s Mecca.The family of country music pioneers will be immortalized during special ceremonies on Saturday, Sept. 22, during the Uncle Pen Days Festival at the south central Indiana Park. The Hall of Fame and Bill Monroe Museum are located on the festival grounds. Admission is free to those holding concert tickets.
Uncle Pen Days are Sept. 19-22 with a lineup that features 30-plus bands.
Headliners include Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys, J.D. Crowe & the New South, Cherryholmes, the James King Band and the Lonesome River Band.
Two veterans who have spanned many genres through their long musical journeys are scheduled to appear Wednesday. Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen’s careers can be traced back to The Byrds on up to The Desert Rose Band, with plenty of notable stops in between.

Camping reservations are being taken now, as are advance ticket orders. Tickets ordered by Sept. 1 carry a substantial discount.
